Health Kiosk team met up with three Indian journalists in August 2011

On 31st of August, 2011, the Health Kiosk team in Finland met up with three journalists from India: Mr Mahesh Daga from Indo-Asian News Service IANS, Ms Sanchita Sharma from Hindustan Times and Mr Sanjeev Srivastava from Apt Media Solutions Pvt Ltd. In addition, Mr Jyri Lintunen from Finnfacts and Mr. Oskar Ylänkö took part in the meeting that was organized by Finnfacts to showcase successful Indo-Finnish collaborations in the healthcare domain, and the Indian Health Kiosk was presented as one example.

In this event, Merie Joseph the development of the Health Kiosk venture as co-creation between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and GVL Finland, presenting the various milestones of the venture, while Christian Aspegren’s presentation focused more on the topic of how to enable the fast growth for a venture such as Health Kiosk.

On June 10th, 2011, Indian Health Kiosk was presented in an event held at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki. After the words of welcome by asst. professor Pia Polsa, the stage was given over to professor Dhrubes Biswas, who gave a presentation about the business ecosystem being born around the Health Kiosks in India. After Professor Biswas’s talk, Aki Koivistoinen talked about the role of donations in the Health Kiosk venture, and Christian Aspegren presented enabling solutions to the so-called fundability gap that many growth-minded ventures often come face to face with.

After the presentations it was time for the participants of this event to get rid of their roles as listeners and take part in an interactive co-creation session, facilitated by Aki Koivistoinen and Vesa Auvinen from Dazzle Oy. Two big tables in the lobby were covered with a white sheet of paper and there were big felt-tip pens waiting to be grabbed.

The paper on each table was not empty, however: in the center were the words “Health Kiosk in 2014″. Everyone was then asked to join in the co-creation of a vision of what Health Kiosk would look like in a few years’ time; they were to put all their ideas, plans, suggestions and visions on the paper.

Groups were formed, pens were grabbed, discussions started. Some went to peek at what the people gathered around the other table were doing, while others focused solely on the vision that was forming on the table in front of their eyes. Sometimes one would step back, take a look at the bigger picture, and maybe grab hold of someone else’s idea and develop it further.

When the time for this activity was up, each group was asked to select two representatives who would explain the vision to the other group. It was an exciting moment to see how different the visions were from one another, and the participants curiously looked at the results visible on each table. Everyone, including Professor Biswas, were impressed by the results and hoped that the year 2014 would truly see those visions come to life.

During this day and on the following days, professor Biswas and his team in Finland also met up with corporate participants who were interested in finding out more about the Health Kiosk venture and possibilities of co-operation. The initial talks with SMEs interested in entering rural markets in India were continued during the summer.
